The excavations conducted by MOLA at St Martin’s Courtyard in London were one of the most extensive undertaken within the Middle Saxon trading port of Lundenwic and provided a revealing glimpse into life in Saxon London. We worked with the developers of the shopping and dining destination and their PR agency, Sister PR, in the spring of 2011 on a pop-up archaeology exhibition. The exhibition shared our findings with their customers and celebrated St Martin’s Courtyard’s support for the archaeological investigation.

The pop-up exhibition sat in the heart of the newly developed retail destination and was a great way of sharing the site's rich heritage with shoppers and diners.

London-wide publicity generated around the exhibition helped to drive visitors to the retail and dining destination and large numbers of people visited the exhibition to discover the archaeology of the site.
In addition to displaying the objects found during the excavation our specialists were on-hand to answer questions from the public. A series of workshops were organised to appeal to a range of audience, including a family friendly ‘meet the archaeologists’ session and an adult workshop on Saxon London that coincided with an evening of late-night shopping.
