Our Field Museum in a Box allowed us to take archaeological discoveries into the community!
We travelled all over Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, meeting different groups and helping them get hands-on with archaeology. We brought along all sorts of objects for groups to examine and discuss – from coins to combs to pieces of animal bone.
These artefacts, along with some replicas, allowed us to talk about what life was like in the area over 2,000 years ago.
After a discussion and handling session, we ran a small crafting activity. Whether doing some weaving or sculpting a pot, these workshops were an opportunity to talk about the original objects these crafts are based upon.
As always, we adapted our sessions based on the group and their needs so that everyone got something out of it.
These activities and archaeological excavations took place as part of the National Highways A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvements.
