Excavation

We’ll work closely with you to develop a strategy for investigating, recording and excavating any archaeology discovered through surveys. With decades of experience, we’re proud to have developed standard techniques for archaeological excavation now used across the sector. 

Before starting work on an excavation, we produce a Written Scheme of Investigation. This is a technical document required by the Local Planning Authority which outlines what archaeological work is needed. It also covers how our activities operate alongside other work on site.

Our team has expertise in a huge variety of sites. We also have an unparalleled track record in deep, complex urban archaeology and have extensive experience on large open-area rural projects. Having worked on some of the largest cemeteries ever excavated, we can easily handle everything from arranging burial licenses to assessing the human remains. 

We'll work with you to design specific solutions for your project, making sure they are efficient and cost-effective. 

We are very experienced working with construction teams and prioritise on site communication and risk management. Our team can easily engage with your consultants and contractors to avoid any delays so that your project moves smoothly. 

We take Health and Safety very seriously. Our archaeological supervisors hold Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Supervising Safely Certificates and/or have a Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) qualification.
