We have lots to celebrate this year. It’s been a hugely successful first year of CITiZAN and we’ve been nominated for an award.
The Heritage Lottery Funded project has been nominated to be Current Archaeology’s Rescue Dig of the Year, 2016. Here are some of our highlights from the year:
- Big discoveries like the early Bronze Age trackway at Cleethorpes
- Welcoming 250 volunteers and 800 people that have taken part through our outreach programme
- Launching the CITiZAN website, complete with interactive coastal map showing all the incredible sites along England’s coastlines
- Hosting the first annual CITiZAN conference, ‘Turn the Tide’, in Bridlington, Yorkshire
And of course, our teams across England are recording the country’s fascinating coastal heritage. Some of these sites feature in our annual calendar which we share with our colleagues, partners and clients. You can have a sneak peak at a few of the images that made the cut, including the Bant's Carne Neolithic burial chamber on the Isles of Scilly and the National Trust site of the wreck of the Coonatto.
