Join Thames Discovery Programme to explore the Thames foreshore at Deptford
Led by one of our expert archaeologists, discover the archaeology of this fascinating area of Thames foreshore. Learn about the Royal Navy shipyard founded by Henry VIII and how it built ships until the reign of Queen Victoria. Find out about the site's subsequent role as a stockyard and the "gut girls" who worked there, as an American encampment in WW2 and in industrial disputes of the 1990s. .
Please be aware that this event involves walking across uneven and muddy ground. It is not suitable for young children or people with mobility difficulties.
The walk will begin at: 9:15am , by the top of the river stairs next to the Master Shipwright's house, Watergate Lane SE8 3JF. (Find the location on What3Words or Google Maps)
