In-Context Archaeological Guided walk: Woolwich

Join Thames Discovery Programme on an extended in-depth guided walk at Woolwich. Learn about the Wooolwich Naval Dockyard and Royal Arsenal. Led by one of our expert archaeologists, discover histories of naval shipbuilding and how they were armed. Join us for an exclusive guided walk exploring the maritime past of Woolwich. This walk will lead you through the history of shipbuilding at Woolwich from Henry VIII's dockyard to its closure the 19th century, almost three hundred years of maritime heritage. The walk will also cover the development of gunnery, especially for the navy. This walk will start at Woolwich Church before heading through the Naval dockyard to explore stories of shipbuilding and on to the site of the Royal Arsenal where gunnery will be discussed. The walk will last 3 hours and will finish by the Woolwich Elizabeth Line station.
Please be aware that this event includes walking across uneven and muddy ground. It is not suitable for young children or people with mobility difficulties.
