New finds from the tomb of the Saxon king!

An archaeological excavation by Museum of London Archaeology Service (MoLAS) in Priory Crescent, Southend unearthed a 7th century grave that is perhaps the most spectacular discovery of its kind of the past 50 years.

Work on site finished some time ago, but continuing work in the laboratory is revealing yet more about the prince's life and death. Some of the more fragile or fragmentary remains were removed from the site within surrounding blocks of sand. These remains have now been painstakingly exposed and conserved, and several exciting new artefacts brought to light.
