To celebrate the launch of our new Archaeology Traineeship, which provides ten Londoners with an opportunity to train for a career in field archaeology, we’ve asked some of our archaeologists to tell us what they love about their jobs.

Senior Archaeologist Jessica Bryan, pictured, is one of MOLA’s most dedicated archaeologists. In this blog post, part of our  #I❤Archaeology series, she tells us about her first day on site and her love for the profession.

The moment of discovery, I still remember my first day on a commercial site when I proudly showed a water-rounded stone to my mentor, she smiled and said I should go and show the supervisor… you can’t beat that feeling of finding (or thinking you’ve found) something. And it doesn’t matter how long you have been digging there is always something you haven’t seen. Although hopefully you only pick up a rounded pebble once….

Keep an eye on our blog pages this week or follow #IArchaeology on Facebook and Twitter to hear more personal stories from our field archaeologists.
